Scott Whitmore PT, BSc(PT), Dip.Manip.PT, FCAMT, CGIMS

Scott graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1994 with a bachelor of science in Physiotherapy. He received his diploma of manipulative physiotherapy from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Orthopaedic Division in 1999.

Scott is an active instructor and examiner for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association teaching an internationally recognized curriculum of manual therapy courses in Canada since 1999. He continues to be involved in mentoring physiotherapists through the Diploma of Manual and Manipulative physiotherapy examinations, while maintaining a very active role in the Orthopaedic division as chair of the education committee. His clinical interests revolve around the treatment of spine, shoulder and hip disorders. Scott is also certified in the Gunn IMS (Intra-Muscular Stimulation) dry needling technique for chronic pain disorders.

Francine Dore

Francine Doré is one of two founding partners in Manual Concepts Physiotherapy. (Scott Whitmore is the other). Francine brings 18 years of experience running a multi-disciplinary center, South City Physiotherapy.

Originally from Montréal, Francine graduated from the University of Toronto in 1984, and then worked in both hospital and clinic settings prior to opening South City Physiotherapy in Guelph in 1990.

In addition to her role in helping Manual Concepts build and manage a team of self-motivated, highly-skilled physiotherapists, Francine’s goal is to assist in the education of patients and the community at large about the benefits of physiotherapy for optimal health.

Francine was recognized for her commitment to the well-being of individuals and for her contributions to her community in 2004, when she was selected as the Guelph YMCA-YWCA’s “Woman of Distinction” in the Health and Wellness category. She is further involved in the community as an active member of the Board of Directors of the Trillium Rotary Club of Guelph.

Lisa Carlesso BScPT, MScPT, FCAMT, CAFCI, CGIMS

Lisa has been practicing in the field of orthopaedic physiotherapy since her graduation from the University of Toronto in 1990. Her private practice has largely focused on sports medicine, as well as general orthopaedics. In 2003, she obtained her Advanced Diploma in manual and manipulative therapy. She has certification in acupuncture and Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation IMS) and also completed several myofascial release courses. In 2005 having returned to school, Lisa completed her MSc. PT. researching cervical manipulation, risks and informed consent.

Lisa has been involved in teaching in the entry level physiotherapy programs at U of T and the University of Western Ontario and currently McMaster. She is also a credentialing instructor in the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Lisa is the president of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists (CAMT). This organization is an accredited member of the International Federation of Manipulative Physiotherapists (IFOMT). CAMT is dedicated to supporting educational standards of manual and manipulative therapy, promoting awareness of the advanced training of its members and continuing to enhance the skill of its membership by offering ongoing educational opportunities. Johanna Thackwray

Olympic dreams are not only for athletes. Johanna Thackwray, a Registered Massage Therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario since 1993, has had a goal for the last 10 years of going to the Olympics as part of the Canadian Health Care Team. This August her Olympic goal will be realized as she has been selected to the Canadian Health Care Team for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.

Johanna earned the distinction of Certified Sport Massage Therapist –SMT(C) through the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association (CSMTA), in 2001. She was selected on to the Canadian Health Care Teams for both the PanAm Games in 2003 in the Dominican Republic, as well as the Francophone Games in 2005 in Niger, Africa. Her experience dealing with athletes of all levels includes the 2003 Canada Winter Games and many International World Championship events. Johanna has worked with elite athletes from a variety of sports including; Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Water Skiing, Paralympic Swimmers, Skeleton, Rowing, Dance and Boxing. She has been the Massage Therapist for the Canadian Water Ski Team since 2003.

Aside from her dedication to working with amateur athletes Johanna also has a special interest in her pregnant and post-natal clients. She has taught private Prenatal classes to clients and assisted several mothers during their labour and delivery. Symptomatically, the aches and pains associated with pregnancy and early motherhood can often be reduced significantly through Massage Therapy.

Johanna spent her first seven years of practice out in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she also completed her Human Kinetics degree at UBC. She graduated with First Class Standing and as Valedictorian of her graduating class.

Since returning to Ontario in 2000, Johanna has worked at two very busy multidisciplinary clinics in downtown Toronto before coming to join us here in Guelph at Manual Concepts Physiotherapy in May of 2007. Johanna also teaches Sport Massage Courses and had the opportunity to teach massage in Iran in 2004.

Johanna’s approach to Massage Therapy is therapeutic with a focus on rehabilitation and recovery.

Jennifer McKay

Jennifer is the newest addition to Manual Concepts Physiotherapy. She is a graduate from the University of Waterloo where she did her Honours degree in Kinesiology (2001). After graduating from the University of Waterloo, Jennifer went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen's University in Kingston. Jennifer has been working as a physiotherapist for the past three and a half years in her hometown of Acton.

Over the past few years, she has focussed on completing courses in acupuncture, McKenzie training, as well as courses in manual therapy.

Jennifer completed her Part A Manual Therapy exams in April 2007, giving her a certificate in Intermediate Manual and Manipulative Therapy. She is currently working towards her acupuncture certification. Her clinical areas of interest include the shoulder and the ankle.
